Turkey - Project A
An initial feasibility study for a 2,400 cow turnkey dairy feedlot operation on behalf of a private investor was undertaken by Sourceworld™. This investigation initially lead to utilising some of the best dairy designers in the USA, along with a local Turkish construction giant, to build a modern dairy housing and milking facility. This farm is on 2500ha of land with the majority of the area growing alfalfa, corn and cereal, which provides the bulk of the forage for the herd and young stock. The unique dairy facility design includes rearing facilities for all male progeny which are grown for beef. The dairy operation has been so successful that the second phase of the dairy is now well underway. When complete, this very modern agribusiness will milk 4,800 cows. Sourceworld™ is continuing to provide consultancy expertise to the operations team in the area of animal health, nutrition and crop production which has contributed to this dairy operation being the highest producing dairy herd in Turkey.

Turkey - Project B
This large, diversified and vertically integrated agribusiness has expanded its portfolio to include crop production. Comprised of more than 6,000 hectares, the farm is located in the eastern part of Turkey. The deep clay loam soils and gently rolling topography create an ideal setting for producing high yield optimum quality grain and forage. The region is known for winter rainfall and the soils have the ability to retain significant amount of soil moisture creating the opportunity for modest yielding summer crop production. The cropping programme will contain a mix of approximately 50% winter crops and 50% summer crops. The winter crop will comprise mainly of wheat, with the company producing first generation seed wheat for Turkish farmers. Summer crops will include safflower, sunflower, chickpeas, soybeans, corn and alfalfa. In time, irrigation will be introduced and intensive animal production will be included in the farming enterprise. SourceWorld’s experience and expertise in modern crop production is being utilised to guide and assist the company in developing a highly productive and modern fleet of agriculture equipment. This machinery will contain the latest in proven precision agriculture technology including RTK guided auto steer, controlled traffic, row and section controllers for planters, sprayers and fertiliser spreaders, yield mapping and variable rate application. To conserve valuable soil moisture and to improve and protect soil quality, no-till practices will be implemented into the cropping programme. Training in and utilisation of best practice agronomic principals will help make this new cropping operation a highly productive, profitable and environmentally responsible agribusiness.
Using improved farm practices, these deep high moisture retentive soils have the potential to produce consistent high yielding grain and forage crops. |

Turkey - Project C
This company is primarily involved in media within and outside of Turkey. Our client has invested in a newly developed 1200 ha crop production operation in central southern Turkey. Because of the low rainfall, centre pivot irrigation is used extensively. Crops grown include corn silage, alfalfa and triticale silage. With the assistance of Sourceworld™, Precision Agriculture will increasingly be utilised on this operation to improve yields, reduce costs and improve profitability. Sourceworld™ is also responsible for assisting the owner and the cropping team to develop best practice cropping principals. In the near future, a large intensive dairy operation will be built on nearby land. Forage requirements for this new dairy will come from an expansion in cropping area.

Brazil
Following two successful study tours to Brazil and Chile, Sourceworld™ consultants initially undertook feasibility work for a private joint venture of New Zealand farming investors for the development of a Greenfield dairy operation. After an investigation land was purchased to facilitate a 1000 cow dairy operation which is now fully operational. This farm operates a partial grazing, partial feedlot dairy feeding principal, utilising tropical pastures, arable forage crops and locally sourced by-product feeds. The tropical pastures are irrigated using centre pivot irrigation which is fed from an on-farm water storage dam. Detailed investigation has resulted in a system that has minimised setup costs, thereby maximising returns to the project investors.

India
India’s growing economy and expanding population requires significant development in agriculture production to meet the increasing food demands of the Indian people. If India is to be relatively self sufficient in food production agribusiness will need to continue to invest heavily in food production. A large New Zealand owned multinational company has entered into a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with two equally significant agribusinesses in India to investigate the possibility of establishing an intensive dairy operation in India. If this inaugural dairy is successful many other dairy enterprises will be established throughout India in time by the MoU group of companies. To achieve optimum milk output and profitability, sourcing suitable feeds and producing high quality forages will be essential. Managing effluent responsibly will also be an important consideration with this venture. SourceWorld™ was asked to undertake an onsite feasibility study on the suitability of the region to supply high quality concentrates and by-products needed for an appropriate dairy feed ration suitable to support high milk production. SourceWorld was also requested to identify land appropriate for high yielding forage production with consideration for sustainable production and consistent forage yields. The findings of the report assisted the joint venture to identify the possibility and considerations for establishing an intensive dairy facility in one region of India.
Determining soil structure, texture and profile is an essential first step in understanding a soils limitation and ability to produce high yielding forage crops.

Oman
Established in the mid 1980’s, this desert based irrigated forage operation has provided Rhodes grass and other forages to the livestock industry within Oman. Recently, this farming enterprise has changed ownership, with the new owners focused on upgrading essential irrigation equipment and machinery. The new owner has a vision to significantly increase forage production through improvements in infrastructure and by placing an emphasis on agronomy practices. In time a goat livestock and poultry facility will also be introduced to compliment the forage production venture. SourceWorld’s consultancy involvement includes assistance with identifying critical infrastructure replacement needs, hands on support with planting new crops, advice on the agronomy programme and staff training. Because water is a precious resource in the desert, training will also be given on best practice irrigation management.

East Malaysia
This project proposal included a feasibility study investigating the viability of a semi-intensive beef feedlot system with pasture grazing combined with a intensive feedlot finishing unit in Sarawak. It was intended that a Joint Venture would be established between the State Farmers Organisation and a Private Malaysian Business to lease the Karabungan Government Research Station. Brahman and Brahman-cross weaners imported from Northern Australia were to be reared on improved pastures, then finished on a feedlot for two to three months prior to slaughter. A local business had intended to sell cut meats through its retail outlet in Sarawak and also supply live animals for Brunei.

Madagascar
Until a recent change in government, Sourceworld™ held the consultancy contract to design, build and manage the largest dairy unit in Madagascar, providing a management team covering feeding, herd and reproductive management, breeding and culling programmes as well as day to day management, including evaluating and training local staff. SOURCEWORLD™ has made two successful live heifer exports from New Zealand as well as a fibre and meat goat export from Australia, which has contributed to this industry project.

Saudi Arabia
One of the largest integrated dairy units in the world, this business relies heavily on silages and hay produced from its sizeable and intensive irrigated cropping operation. The objective of this project was to evaluate current agronomic and silage making practices with the aim of increasing forage yields coupled with fine-tuning silage and hay making practices.

Turkey - Project D
A private Turkey based investment company has established a subsidiary agriculture investment company that is currently developing and investing in new agriculture projects. Amongst other commerce, the parent company has been and is currently involved with renewable energy business ventures. At present, the agricultural subsidiary company is in the early stages of developing an intensive state-of-the-art greenfield dairy operation in Turkey milking between 1600 and 3000 cows. Sourceworld™ was employed initially to conduct a feasibility study on the proposed dairy operation and is now in the early stages of the design and planning of the dairy facility and supporting grain and forage production unit. Once the dairy development is complete and milk production optimised, a milk processing operation will also be developed.
